The Public Health Emergency that is the Opioid Epidemic impacts schools and communities across the United States and around the world. Last year the DEA partnered with Discovery Education to combat this growing epidemic with the launch of Operation Prevention.
Operation Prevention’s mission is to educate students about the true impacts of opioids and kick-start lifesaving conversations in the home and classroom. Here are resources you can use in your district, classroom, and at home.
Since its launch, Operation Prevention has reached over 1M students nationwide. No local sponsorship or corporate funding is necessary for you to get started today. We want to make it easy for you to deploy these resources in your district. Below are tools to help:
Brief live stream overview of Operation Prevention
Teachers, you are on the frontlines of this crisis, working with students and families that may have experienced first-hand this epidemic. We want to arm you with the background knowledge, lessons, and resources to introduce students to the science behind opioids and their impact on the brain and body.
Students can play a major role in this fight. They have a unique voice to reach their peers and raise awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse. Have them take part in the Operation Prevention Video Challenge. All they need to do is grab a camera, recruit some friends, and create a 30-60 second original Public Service Announcement aimed to reach other teens about this widespread issue.
Family and community support is crucial to reversing the tide of opioid and prescription drug misuse. Parents/guardians, all family members, and community members need to understand the problem in order to help end it. All of the above resources can help, but we’ve created the Parent Toolkit specifically for them.
