The poster for a show. The trailer for an upcoming television event. The graphics that tell you what’s airing next. Who makes these dynamic, compelling visuals that tell the stories of what’s to come and why you should watch?

Jennifer Cortner is the Vice President of Partnerships for Discovery Communications’ in-house advertising agency. She defines and builds meaningful relationships with media, corporate, and nonprofit partners. Jennifer also leads a group of production artists who use technology every day to produce effective digital and print ads. A big part of her role is staying on top of technology trends, making business decisions about whether Discovery can engage and be successful at it, and explaining those technology benefits and trends to our clients and our senior level executives.

As media consumption rapidly shifts and evolves from watching programs on a TV at a specific time to an on-demand, multiplatform world, Jennifer helps Discovery keep up, communicate with our consumers completely differently, react to data and analytics, and develop creative that will resonate with audiences.

Fun facts: Jennifer earned her college degree in International Affairs and thought she would work for the State Department or the CIA. She also studied for a minor in computer science, knowing that it would be a helpful skill for me to learn. While she didn’t excel as a programmer, the experience helped her develop a fundamental understanding of technology that helps her communicate in a technology-driven role.
